Ford Figo Aspire Overview
Kick-starting the festive season in style, Ford India’s big bet this year is its new 2018 Ford Aspire facelift that is already on sale and in many ways will disrupt the sales in this segment at least for the next 4-5 months. The challenge in this compact segment for any carmaker is to make the car look good without changing its proportions and at the same time make the car look radically new to impress the buyer. It is a challenge and that’s where these facelifts have now become so important especially during the festive season when the buying sentiment in a country like India is at its peak. The 2018 Ford Aspire gets enough changes to call it a proper mid-life facelift and scores well in almost every area. The facelift was also long overdue considering its arch rivals (Dzire and Amaze) in its respective new avatar have boosted the sales in this segment. Ford Figo Aspire Exterior
The Aspire sedan is one of the most handsome looking cars in its class. And that looks comes from the Aston Martin esque grille draped in chrome showing the typical Ford design philosophy. The clean crispy lines on the nose are nothing short of impressive. The large headlamps, sharp cut lines on the bonnet and the aggressive chin further enhance the front profile.
Coming to the side profile, it’s been nicely fashioned and smartly uses the waistline to break up the weight of the car. The wheel arches are slightly flared up while the 14-inch alloy wheels look puny, pulling off the enthusiasm which is seen at the front. However, the elegance continues at the rear with well-layered and flat boot-lid along with a nice combination of the bumper. Further, the large chrome strip running across the boot has been placed to attract the attention of the typical Indian customer. Overall, the Ford Aspire is a unique looking sedan when it comes to attractiveness which was lacking in the segment for a long time.
Ford Figo Aspire Interior
Ford Figo’s cabin goes in line with its recent design philosophy. The cabin is decorated in dual beige and black scheme with the dashboard housing a uniquely designed V-shaped centre console that houses the infotainment screen and ac vents. Above that lies an outstandingly carved out mobile dock that really looks premium. The dock allows USB and Aux connectivity that makes it more special. The sculpted steering wheel and the binnacles of the modern instrument cluster look pleasing to eyes.
The car scores some brownie points when it comes to storage. The 20 storage spaces make us wonder how much thought process the engineers have given while designing the cabin. The car houses huge glovebox, plenty of small cubbyholes, two bottle holders, and three cup-holders besides a large 359L boot. In terms of seating, the sporty front seats offer ample level of comfort including good lumbar support. Come to the rear and you will see one of the best in class seats which offer excellent space, thanks to the well-sculpted front seats.
Ford Aspire comes with oodles of gadgetry one would expect in this class of sedan. The car features Bluetooth telephony, music system with phone controls as well as steering mounted audio controls, all creating a perfect ambience of technology and practicality. Another interesting aspect of the car is Ford MyKey which is basically a system that controls settings such as volume, speed limit and reminding you of your seatbelts. The car comes with advanced voice activated SYNC infotainment system allowing you to handle call, text, listen to favourite songs as well as assisting you in emergency services in case of any mishap. The system is also compatible with Bluetooth, USB, Aux-in and powered by 4 speakers, two each at the front and the rear.
Other aspects of the car include automatic climate control, fabric or leather seat upholstery, height adjustable driver seat, 12V power socket, boot lamp, steering mounted audio controls, driver side one-touch power window and electric boot release. Although there is plenty of comfort and convenience, still the car needs features such as rear parking camera, start-stop button and ambient lighting system to stay in the competition.Check for Ford Figo Aspire in sccaudi.com
Ford Figo Aspire Performance
The car is available in three engine options, so there is no dearth of choice. Starting with the petrol line-up, the 1.2L Ti-VCT engine is capable of developing 88PS and 112Nm of torque, mated to 5-speed manual transmission. The powerful 1.5L from the same Ti-VCT family produces 110PS and max torque throughput of 136Nm. This motor comes mated to dual-clutch 6-speed automatic transmission. The diesel Aspire, on the other hand, gets the 1.5L TDCi motor that makes 100PS and 215Nm of torque. This one too is mated to 5-speed manual transmission. All these engines are familiar to the one who have driven Ford vehicles such as EcoSport and Fiesta. The 1.5L diesel is certainly a big surprise in the lot that brings positive effect on the performance as a result of good power and low weight. The acceleration is also strong. The 1.2L is an improved version with better throttle response, but the need for power can be demanding on open roads.
As far as Ford Aspire 2018 mileage is concerned, the 1.2-litre petrol engine is claimed to deliver 20.4 km/l as opposed to the diesel variants that see a marginal increase of 0.27 km/l in the fuel economy at 26.1 km/l.Ford has peeled off the weight in favour of better fuel efficiency. And that can be seen in the fact that the diesel version is capable of returning ARAI certified mileage of 25.83kmpl. And this is really a mind blowing thing especially for a newcomer in the segment. The diesel variant buyer will surely be pleased with the real world mileage. While petrol automatic is slightly low on fuel economy at 17kmpl, the manual one delivers 18.16kmpl.
Ford Figo Aspire Rideing
The steering wheel is smooth to handle and often extra smooth that you need to be conscious of finding the right grip while driving. Like other cars in the segment, it does not get cruise control but does get steering mounted controls. There is almost no engine noise in the cabin but we did find a lot of traffic noise coming in and insulation there could have been a bit better. The claimed mileage on the Ford Aspire petrol variant is 20.4 kmpl and on the highways, it did return an impressive 16.9 kmpl. We are yet to drive the car in proper city conditions.
Ford Figo Aspire Safety
On the safety front, Ford Aspire gets dual-airbags, ABS with EBD as a standard fitment right from the base variant. The top variant gets additional safety focus with 6 Airbags, Electronic Stability Control, Traction control, hill-start assist, rear parking camera with sensors and many more. The Ford Aspire 2018 features standard dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, and seatbelt reminder for the driver and front passenger.
